jive, since you have been told to fix this problem on your own, this could be taken as permission to have the lock replaced or rekeyed by a locksmith. To cover your 'ass'sets, you may want to get it in writing so no other problems can occure with defacing company property.
The only downfall would be that it turns into you problem and you will have to pay for the cost out of your own pocket. So, you can either get permission, pay for the lock and have a drawer that locks, or ask yourself is this drawer really worth locking.
