Metal Desk Drawer and No Key

I have a metal file drawer with a lock but no key to lock it with. Is there some way to get a key made or find an existing key to fit the lock.
The number on the drawer is 'LL622'. I was thinking about bring every key I have at home and try them.

Is the drawer open? look inside on the back of the lock, the cheapest way to deal with the problem is to find the screw or snapspring that holds it in the drawer and remove that, then remove the lock and go to a locksmith with it, he will sell you a replacement with 2 keys, it may not be the same type of lock, but the locksmith will match it to what you bring in for length diameter, and cam.

File drawer locks go pretty cheap so having a key made for it is sort of pointless. Like raimundo said, it's more practical to just replace it then to have a locksmith fit a key for it.

The problem is this is company property and I do not want to vandalize it.
I was just trying to find out if I could get a key made if I only had the 'LL622' number. If not I guess I will have to live with a desk that is not able to lock.

Company property is company problem. Yeah yeah i know you have to use the desk but you need to talk to someone in maintenance.

I don't think the company would be amused if one of their employees had a unauthorized key made for their locks. I don't know of any locksmith who would make a key without first getting permission from the legal owner of the lock in question either.

It is a very small company and we do not have maintenance. I was told that if I wanted a key for the desk I would have to do it on my own. I am trying to find the best way to do this without having to remove parts.

the code will get you a key if you find the right source, try a locksmith, or contact the makers of the desk. they should have it. if not ask where the company that made the lock is. they will have it or they wouldnt have bothered to stamp it there.

Removing the lock and getting a new one is the best way to go about this situation.... basic cam locks aren't more than a few dollars. You never did say if the drawer was open or closed. If its closed then find a local locksmith get the number give it to your boss so he can call and have someone come in and take care of everything.

Apperentely the desk drawer is unlocked, and he wants to be able to lock it.

jive, since you have been told to fix this problem on your own, this could be taken as permission to have the lock replaced or rekeyed by a locksmith. To cover your 'ass'sets, you may want to get it in writing so no other problems can occure with defacing company property.

The only downfall would be that it turns into you problem and you will have to pay for the cost out of your own pocket. So, you can either get permission, pay for the lock and have a drawer that locks, or ask yourself is this drawer really worth locking.

Just make a pair of bogotas, you should be able to use them as keys, after a day or so you will be opening it and locking it just as fast as with a key, light pressure and ligh picking flicks these things open as easy as picking your nose.
