Generally, hooks, half diamonds, and rakes of all types are for pin tumbler locks. Their are many, many variations of these picks however. It's just up to you to find what you are most comfortable using. The half ball, round, and snowman picks are great for disk locks, not the high security paclock type, the low security ones you typically find on a desk or cabinet. Some locks are high security and have theor own tools that have been adapted for picking, but that discussion must wait until you have advanced access . Hope this helped a little. If you have further questions, either reply here, or PM me. I'll help if I can.

Weiser is average. It's a popular brand but not really high security. Try a couple of different locks. Read all you can, you'll get it.

dont beat yourself up, you can be good at it if you keep your interest and practice, expect to hit some walls as you build experience.

Maybe your weiser has a difficult bitting for a beginner, no worries, some of our beginners have started on harder locks and it takes a while to get lucky, that just means that when you get it, you will be so much more pleased with yourself, maybe the first time is the best, eh? and when you do get it, lock it back up immediatly and start over. I think you will find that many of the beginners who locked it back after the first time got it again really quick, cant explain it, but I do understand it, its a pretty common experience and it means you have made a breakthrough. then if you lock it again and again, quit for a little while when your hands cramp and frustration sets in, that is not helpful practice.
