hey i got a set of lockpicks yesterday. i am actually about to start work experience with a local locksmith. just a few questions, do you need a license to own locksmithing tools in AUSTRALIA, and do you need a license to operate as a locksmith? in case your wondering what set i got it is the 14 peice off southern ordanence. im actually finding it harder to pick with theese than homemade. i recon the picks are better but im not to happy with the tension tools.

Australia use a lot of locks from around the world. a couple of slimline in your collection wouldn't hurt.

The laws are different depending on what state you're in. There's a thread around here somewhere with a lot of info. Search it up.

Commercial tension tools usually suck with few exceptions. Get yourself some windshield wiper blades. And a decent file can make most picks into slimlines.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

You could ask the locksmith you are about to begin work with. I wouldn't ask for the first few weeks though, depending on how well you know him. It might make him suspicious of you if you start asking about lockpicking the first day you start work with him. Might cost you your job.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
