CLEAN TRANSFERS FROM PAPER TO METAL!

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

CLEAN TRANSFERS FROM PAPER TO METAL!

Postby tumblertim » 27 Apr 2007 13:01

hello all,
i am new here and thought i could help out with the transfering of templates that you print out on your computer to the hacksaw blades you intend to use for picks......it works simular to the fake tattoos you soak in hot water and peel onto your skin.

WHAT U WILL NEED:
1. HEAT TRANSFER PAPER- you can find this at any fabric store or major retailer like walmart etc. its used primarly for adhering artwork to clothing (simular to athletic uniforms for example) and the bonus is u can use laser or inkjet printers.

2. IRON

3. FINE GRIT SAND PAPER

4. CLEANING SOLUTION LIKE ALCHOHOL

ok its all about the paper!
put paper into printer
print out template
cut to size
iron onto hacksaw blade that you have removed coating from and cleaned w alchohol.
and WALA!
GRIND AWAY WITH CLEAN TRANSFERS SECURELY BONDED TO UR BLADE!

HAPPY PICK MAKING!

no im still in the right nobody said anything about HEAT TRANSFER PAPER which i was refering to!

the process described in the above link is using heat to melt the toner in a laser jet printer onto metal.

the process i refer to is using a special paper to transfer an image into something and peeling it onto a piece of stock.

my idea works alot better and you can use it w inkjet printers as well.
plus you dont have to worry about it rubbing, washing or smearing off and its not messy. paper is expensive, about a dollar a sheet, but worth it.

just trying to innovate an already good idea.

It's the same principle: print the template onto a kind of paper, then transfer that onto the pick stock. The heat transfer paper is designed for that, and is an easier and less messy way of doing it.
This is the internet:
You don't have to capitalize, you don't have to use punctuation, and you don't have to spell correctly. And you will not communicate effectively.

What mess are you guys referring to? I haven't had a single mess while transfering picktemplates from normal A4 printer paper to my hacksaw blades. I don't understand how you can get it to mess up... :?

I think the idea of using heat transfer paper is legit enough to at least mention. Maybe it would have been better to just add it to the other topic, but I think it's worth at least mentioning.

The "mess" is the water bath and trying to remove waterlogged paper from the pick. In my experience, that's annoyingly difficult and it only comes off in small bits and pieces, not larger sections.

Rub with a piece of wet and dry when the pick is finished and dried out.

I think the main thing with this as compared to the other method that pretty much everyone can find an inkjet to use whereas laser printers aren't as common.

I think this might work very well for those of us with sheets of metal stock. Print out an entire template and transfer it over before cutting...I might give this a shot.
