Homemade tubular picks are not hard to make.
Eddie the Wire has a book Home Workshop Professional Locktools where he shows how to make a tubular lockpick.
Due to copywright laws I can not legally post the info
The book is available from lockpickshop.com, a site sponsor for about $25

I'm working on this right now. Hopefully I'll come up with an adjustable feeler tension adaptable to the lock method of making one without a lathe.Maybe some washers, an eraser and a drill press? That's my project for the day. I'll figure something out.

I used a hand file to extent the cuts the whole way up the barrel of the key. i think sanded over this with 600grip sandpaper and then filed Down some 1.6mm thick wire till it was flat on one side and flush with the barrel of the key.
I tried it with one pin first and it worked perfectly but by the time ide done 7 ide taken the edges of some of the cuts so the bottom was no longer flat.
I also had a rubber band warped round it to tension the "fingers"
I will give it another go at some point ant take my time a little more.
All the best
John

My experience has been that by experimenting with various cardboard stock, this method can be very effective, and not just on cheap locks.
I've always found using a shaft of the correct diameter to support the cardboard, with tape, to be the most effective.
If I recall, last time discussion of this method went a little too far & had to be moved - so I will not elaborate.

The plastic caps from those thin crayola markers are about the right size to fit most Ace locks. You could probably use that to create some sort of pick tool for tubular locks.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
