American 3600 padlock

Postby immolate » 1 May 2007 4:22

Hi, I've been working on this lock for some time now and have noticed there is security pins and a spring to avert tension.

Most padlocks take a few seconds for me, as I do repo work now and again. This particular lock has been a thorn in my side for months now.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a pick method and/or different tools you may have used to open these locks in a timely fashion (ideally <5 minutes)

I keep this one on my desk and every night I keep trying, opening it inconsistantly between 15mins-3 hours using custom tools I made (and the standard ones)

Is this lock just naturally a pain? or am I just not doing it right?

If thats the lock you have then we need to know which style and what core is in it. sounds like it could be quite a mean lock depending on the core thats used in it.

another thing to think about is because of the wide rings of locking mechanisms that can be installed in it, because you can open one is no garuntee you will open another one.

All the best

In that case you could do with needing to know the brand and keyway but basically your going to stand more chance if you make a SFIC tension tool or buy one from peterson.

If your not familiar with the SFICs then have a look here http://www.crypto.com/photos/misc/sfic/

Thanks a lot for that link John!
I wasn't aware of some of the things on this lock, especially the torque difference between the operating and control sleeve. Ill make a tool at work tomorrow if I have time and see if this helps me get my lock open faster.
