Got some basic locks to play with.

Are these locks ok for the beginner? I am sorry that the pictures are blurred I don't have a stand and did only a quick snapshot.

The locks are as follows.

1. Master combination lock (1500D)
2. Mountain lock (warded keyed) (202-40011)
3. Mountain Lock 4 pin (242-44121 BP-8)

I am hopping to pick the two mountain locks when I get my pick set in and I am going to try and shim them all.

Are these locks ok for the absolute newbie?

OMG OMG OMG I own a few of these mountin locks that are securing some of my stuff. The one that used the warded key OMG OMG OMG I was just messing around and took a single paper clip bent the end to 90deg angle and pushed it through twisted and in one step picked it the first time. I HAVE TO CHANGE THEM LOCKS. THIS IS JUST WRONG.

I thought these were designed to protect your stuff not give the thieves the advantage because you thought it was protected when it wasn’t. THIS IS SCARRY.

Picked my first lock and now I am PO'ed. I should have never picked it this easy. WTF.

Yeah, when you discover that the locks you've depended on and trusted for years is just a hunk of metal held together by wires you tend to experience some degree of shock.

What good is the peace of doggy du du. I think I might just go give all my stuff away tomorrow. I mean that is basically all you are doing with these $5.00 looks. I haven’t picked the other two but I bet I could shim them as fast as I picked this one REPEADELY. I mean OMG I haven’t even had any training yet. Just tried something and it worked. Anyone won’t a $400 bike, $500 worth of rock-climbing equipment, and about $1600 worth of tools well my shed is locked up with one of these locks so it’s not like I could stop any of you.

Our moral convictions and devotion to limit lockpicking to only locks we have proper ownership would stop us.

It's quite a kick in the crotch isn't it? To realize you bought a lock that you beleived was secure, but then to find that you trusted your stuff to something you can open with a single paperclip....

First, get a good pin tumbler (or HS) lock on your shed. Most warded locks can be opened with a good hammer hit, a good pin tumbler lock cannot. OH and there is no reason to spend 200$ on a lock if you install it on a bad door/hasp.

If I were you, and storing that much of value in a shed, I would get a good padlock that has a ball locking mechanism, as these cannot be shimmed.

Oh, and when you bought the house did you have the locks rekeyed? Do you have Kwikset or similar brand on you doors? If so replace them. Deadbolts on external doors? Install them if you don't have them. These are all security issues.

About your padlock issues. You may want to consider an ABUS 83, as you can have it keyed to your house lock in many cases.

The recommended lock to practice on is a Kwikset deadbolt and a Master Lock #3 padlock. Those two are the best ones to start off with. If you can learn to pick those two, you can pick about 75% of most locks thats sold in this country.

I’m not worried about the house I have 2 Rottweilers. Get past my lock but my rotties are very quite and if you make it past the doors you will be greeted. There tong’s will go across you tell your skinned. Try to leave and you will be greeted by teeth. Have fun getting into the house.

Yea on maybe one but to get both of them before your hurting GL. They are trained to stay around the corners of the entry hall when someone is entering. So you would be a little hard fetched to do this.

On another note beiing that no one knows who I am or where I live there is a very easy way to get past my dogs. Send a child in they would let them in and out with every thing in the house. They love children. A younge child say under 10 could walk in and rob me blind and my dogs would just wag their tails.

You know where I am.

Sniker Sniker

Well I started saying some long winded stuff in response but decided to cut that down.

No you think you have accurate information that’s all. I know very well what’s out their about me. I could lie and say Oh I use someone else’s name (I have done this allot though...Used others names) I did not do this in this case.

Yes my name is Dean shut you wont my last name its Murray. Nice try on locating me. You can use drivers license information....Not my address. Phone book info....Not my address. Tax records...Not my address.

In this day in age there is no such thing as privacy. You will be able to find me picking up mail from 3 different sources and then follow me home but your not going to find my house as easy as a search on the internet paid or not. You could find my place of employment however.

Sorry this still turned long winded and needless waist of time. I will rephrase the whole response so that it’s not so long winded.

OMG YOU CAN FIND MY SHED...YOU KNOW MY NAME...OMG I AM NEVER USING THE NET AGAIN....

sorry had to be little smart ass.

Oh bye the way the shed isn’t at my house.

Thanks for the heads up though you may have helped someone who doesn't know better.

cjames73 I am sorry after proof reading that it sounded like an attack on your response.

Please don't take it that way. It was meant to be a smart ass but not an attack

Your info could be very helpful to some and I totally did not intend to be mean.

Thanks for responding.
