Kwikset Cylinders - Why never on Ebay?

I am trying to build up a collection of Schlage and Kwikset cylinders, so I can re-pin them to a standard set of key codes.

I've found numerous Schlage cylinders on Ebay, but cannot find any Kwikset. Why is that? Should I be looking for Ilco cylinders? I've tried numerous variations of searches, and again have been successful with the Schlage - am I doing something wrong?

Well kwikset locks are so cheap and worthless that no one would make any profit by selling them on ebay so I bet thats why. But try out craigslist.org . Sometimes there are people who are selling old kwikset locks they want to get rid of.

I've tried craigslist too.....I am doing some residential repo work on residences, which have some of the cheapo Kwiksets - at least they used to when i originally did this type of work back in the eraly 90's...has that changed too?

You could drop by a few of your local locksmith shops and ask if they have any spare kwikset locks you can buy from them. They usually have old locks laying around they would toss out anyways. Just tell them about the kind of work you do if they ask why you want their old locks and I'm sure one of the shops in your area would help you out.

my personal favorite is the thrift stores .. Goodwill ,salavation army ect. Locks without keys are of very little value to most people .. offer to pay accordingly .. like .25 for a complete Kw, or maybe a $1.00 if it is a good condition double sided deadbolt complete.

Gararge sales are another good source.. often the sellers think they are very valuable.. you have to GENTLY inform them of the costs to bring the lock to " working condition"

I've got a couple of 5 gallon buckets full of kwikset and kwikset clone's. Nothing really wrong with any of them. Most are just take offs where we changed keyways somewhere but some have discolored finishes (knobs not cylinders) or paint around the edges.

Dude, I just bought a 6 pack of ultramaxes for like 4 bucks each off of ebay. There were a bunch. Also, ultramax? While it does have 6 pins, and anti-drill inserts, it doesn't have a single security pin.

2octops - that's what I'm looking for, an assortment of Kwikset cylinders. I'll gladly pay you pay $2.50 cylinder, looking for the the cylinders/tails only, and of couse I will also cover all shipping.

I'll also check the thrift stores and garage sales - I thought about those too

take a look in ro ro dumpsters at remodeling sites, they may have some free to the first person with a phillips screwdriver.
