Hello Evyone !
basically i have a few questions i need answering, and i thought this would be a ideal place !

first of all .. i am a COMPLETE begginer ! and am in the process of revising 'MIT Guide to Lockpicking' .. i gathered i need a lock picking set (Obviously) , so i done my homework ,, and found three sets , these were the

as i am a begginer , i would reaaaaly apperciate sum advise on which set to buy, ! . an which one would be the most effecient , so i wouldnt have to buy another set .. so i would be well off .. if u know wah i mean ?

Anyways , second question ..
This may sound like a really stupid question but how would you know how many pins are in a lock ? and how would you know what pick to use on that lock ?

i would be most grateful if anyone could help me out here ! .. p.s i aplogize if this isnt the place to answer this question , buh im jus looking for a quick response !

if you are in Europe then you want a slimline set. get the 15 piece slimline.

you will get to know how many pins are in the more common locks as you go but a good way is to count the valleys on a key or count them with a pick, slide it from the back to the front and count the clicks.

first off most almost everyone here agrees that the 11 piece set is more than you need as a begginer but you would have a pretty good amount of tools to play with, as far as those prices have you tried the south ord site?

to answer your second question, if you dont know how many pins are in a lock you can search for threads where somebody else has alread asked or you could just feel from back to front and count them by hand, about the picks to use the small or medium hook is almost universal, you will just have to find out what you like the best and what works for you.

I got my slimline picks from devon locks really fast (to the UK), though it is quite expensive. At the moment im finding the 9 peice set is plenty enough for the locks that im doing, i only really use two picks, the small hook and the saw tooth rake. The bigger sets might be worthwhile for the extra tension wrenches though, and its fun to pick locks with every sorta pick you have .

If in the UK search around for a cheap basic set by HPC or Southord.Get some Yale and Union cylinder's you will not need slimline's to pick these.Keep everything as cheap as you can till you know this is the hobby for you.there is a wealth of information on this site you only need to search.If you cant find what you need just ask as the member's can point you in the right direction.Good luck.Devon lock's are expensive but they are reliable.

i'm not sure if you're lazy or mentally defective... this is the last one i'm going to link and then I'm just gonna make fun of you.

there is no 11 piece set in the slimline series the next step down from the 15 is the 9 piece set, now before you ask if there is anything smaller I caution you by saying everything you need is in the 9pcs, the 15 has some extra tension tools and stuff that make it extra nice and I really promote it for beginners.
Now since I'll predict that you'll ask about smaller (as either you have little money and/or you can't figure out how to navigate a simplistic site) is the 5 piece set, which IMHO does not have enough especially in the tension tool department.
