Lock pick bending......

Postby bajadan236 » 3 May 2007 18:33

Hi, i Just started lock picking about Two days ago. I just learned how to pick a masterlock No1,3,5 in about 2-7 secs, both singel an rake picking. My question is, why is my pick bending, an Snake rake, is it because im applying to much force? Or am i just twisting it wronge inside the lock? I just need some great advice, like all hte time you guys do 8) . Thank you in advance.

Thanks again!

well done picking your first locks :)

if its taking a lot of pressure to set the pins you may be applying too much tension on your wrench, lighten up a bit.
also, try not to twist your pick in the lock. your pick should only put pressure on the pins, not the sides of the keyway.

what cj said, twisting is not picking, its pick bending and destroying, you didn't learn that here.

You should use the same amount of pressure on the tension wrench as you would to push a button on your keyboard as you type. Anything else more is too much.

I guess you're making the common beginner mistake. Putting too much tension on the tension wrench, so it's really hard to push down the pins. I had the same problem in het beginning. My pick wasn't bending left or right, but upwards. Because of the pressure i applied. Not weird that it was so hard to pick locks ;)

Love the video hah, pick gently picks are delicate tools. Open a lock and see one of the very small springs. Any pressure more than what is required to compress that small spring is TOO much.
Keep practicing youll get it.
