Hi i just got this pretty cool american lock. The fromblem is, i cant pick it. It is an A2000 Solid Steel Padlock. You can find it at www.americanlock.com if you choose to. The thing is, what can you tell me about the lock, i mean pins, security level, what kind of pins, ect. I dont know how to get this lock open, so ill try here and ask arround.

Thanks

The best thing to do is take the core out and follow the usual exercise of working your way up from a couple of pins to all six. There should be a little set screw on the back that will release the cylinder.
American locks are at least intermediate difficulty - they use serrated top and bottom pins which take a lot of finesse to pick. Fortunately the keyways are easy to work in.

I too have one of these and like most American locks they have a six pin cylinder but only five chambers filled. The key pins are a mix of (mostly) serrated and plain while the driver pins are serrated, spools, and spoorated (a serrated spool).

Although taking the cylinder out of the lock is rather easy (ie with the set screw) repining these can be a bit of a pain since the cylinder is held to tail piece by a force fit pin that needs to be popped out to remove the plug from the shell.

Hope that helps.
