Conbination Change Key

Postby gunrunnerjohn » 24 May 2004 16:25

I have what should be a real simple question. :)

Where can I obtain a combination change key for a Sargent Greenleaf R6700 combination lock? I have a safe with one of these, and I can't seem to find a local place that will sell me the key so I can change the combination.

Thanks.

I notice that SLC-4 also lists the 6700, what's the difference between that one and the SLC-8?

Also, I notice the following on the home page:

The products shown on this web site are intended for sale to authorized security professionals only. All products must be purchased through
an Authorized HPC Distributor.

I'm a lowly product owner, how do I go about actually buying one of these? Will one of the distributors sell me one?

As you can see, I know little about how this stuff is sold, I just want to solve a problem. :)

Just checked inmy little black book and as far as I recall, the SLC4 does a range of models, and I assume it will cost more, but please dont quote me on this.

As far as obtaining one is concerned, I would have no problem in supplying a combination change key to a genuine customer, so would advise you contact your local locksmith shop and ask them to order one for you.

When you do get one, remember to keep the safe door in the open position and try the new code whilst it is open. You should get a set of instructions with the key.

One more idea is to contact the manufacturer, not sure on their policies on this subject. A locksmith, one you do not know, will be less likely to supply you with tools that cut into their business.

Thanks for the replies. I've emailed a couple of dealers from the Sargent website, we'll see what they say. I did find instructions for setting the combination on the Sargent website, just need the key to do the job. :)

Why don't you figure it out yourself? It took me 1 1/2 hours on a different model, Just pick every even number like 2 then 4 then pick every fifth number because the third combination has more of an range

Hey junior, considering you have no clue what the hell you are talking about, best not to butt in.

Hi there gunrunnerjohn, I picked up a couple of S & G 6700s from ebay recently which came with the vital change tool. Might be worth keeping an eye out on there, and if you know any locksmiths they'll tend to have some old locks hanging about from upgrading to digital or similar...

Cheers,

Ben
