If you decide to do it, this might help. You can weld plex using ethlinedi cloride and a glass hypodermic syringe. I don't know if I spelled that right but it sounds like (ethel-lene-die-cloride). You have to use a glass hypodermic syringe because the plastic ones will melt and jam. I don't remember the needle size but it was much larger than the #26 commonly used for injections. The needle and shank is all metal.
It's very important that the two mating surfaces be very flat. I always machined the edges to be welded. The flat surface of the plex is fine as is.
Don't clamp it until you've welded it. You can see the chemical appears to get sucked in as you inject along the edge. It will generate some heat. It starts to set up and gets sticky fairly quickly but let it set up overnight before testing the weld.
If this is done right the weld can sometimes be stronger then the plex. It's been years but I got both chemical and glass hypodermic syringe at the drug store. Hope this helps.
