Preferred or Recommended Residential Locks (U.S.)??

I'm not sure most folks would truly get much value from a UL 437 rated deadbolt. In my thinking, an ANSI Grade 1 would suffice just fine, especially working in conjunction with a beefed up door and jamb.

I'm still wondering about the specific difference between the Kwikset 980 and Schlage B600. To satisfy my curisoity, I'll likely order one of each and take a look for myself.

I don't own a Schlage B600 but I do have a Kwickset ultramax. The ultramax does have 6 pins and some spools but the plastic shaft on the back of the deadbolt says it all to me. I have found Schlage kik doorknobs are a lot harder to bump than any Kwickset.

Then get a grade 2 schlage and retrofit a Medeco,multilock, or even a Bi-Lock

Its economical, your cylinder has a UL listing and cheap arse's get a good price.

Even if were talking about just locks, I hate the "If a criminal wants it he will get it, what are you gonna do?"

You get a good lock and do what you can, if all else fails get a mossburg and rip a hole through the robbers chest when he walks into your house.

There is absolutly no room for ingorance in security, and it's the customers choice.. but then again I can only do what they pay me to do, the repercussions of idiocy and cheapness fall on them. I just say I told ya so.

If on a budget i would start with reinforcing the doors, frames, hinge sides, etc. Then when budget allows move up from that kwikset to a better lock in your newly reinforced doors, frames, etc.

Personally I'd rather see someone drop $100 in reinforcing the installations they have then see them drop the $100 on a bilock/medeco/etc and install in on a pos door and frame.
