ok this is the normal type of school lock the schools issue you with. It is a master lock combination style and at the back there is a keyhole.
I recently went on holidays and since have forgotten my combination. I was wondering if there is any effective way of opening it. I need to open my locker as i need to retrieve my school books etc. I was looking through the other posts, and i have found out about "shimming" and lock picking.
Since this is a one off thing, would shimming be a good process or lock picking. I have also read other posts on the internet that some combination locks dont work with shimming..something along the line that if it has a ball bearing thingy...i was wondering IF ANYONE could help me and find out if shimming can work on it, and also, if not...does the ball bearing prevent the shimming or something else.
i have also read other posts about other ways to find out your forgotten combination. This includes the method of finding out the 3rd number of your combo, by pulling on shackle etc etc. I'm sure most of you would know being keen lock pickers. anyway....does this process work or would i have to open the lock manually and replace it with a new one so as to remember combination.
BTW the school has told me that as soon as possible that they will try and open my locker. However frm past experience,,,such as retrieving comp passwords....this process takes about 3months, and i cant wait that long...
ANYONE PLZ HELP,,,any suggestions would be appreciated!

the school caretaker should be able to open it for you, i doubt anyone here will help you.
the lock belongs to the school so it is not yours to mess about with.

Why in the world would it take the school 3 months to find a combination to a lock they issued to you? That doesn't make any sense or sound right.

well my schools a hole...excuse the language...and the school caretaker/cleaner/groundskeeper/whatever his job is....is a random old man. He's always in a bad temper too. yeh...it took me 3months to retrieve my login password for the comps so yeh....other than that...thanks heaps!
btw i shimmed my first lock using some old coke cans. I found they tend to rip easily and you cut your fingers heaps with them.

as your attorney I advise you to call your local police department so they can come shoot all the locks off the lockers you want into... then take a hit from the little brown bottle in my shaving kit, you won't need much...it's pure human adrenichrome

In that case you should inform all your teachers of the situation. Tell them that all your text books are in your locker and that since your grounds keeper refuses to do his job, you can't get to your books and do your homework or follow along with your lessons in class. I can't imagine a school that would go along with such an excuse that "Oh, since our maintenance guy is a total @## hole, you have to do without your books".

If the school would let you use a keyed padlock for your locker with you and the school both having the key to it do that instead. When I was in high school I used a 1500 combo lock on my locker and I got broken in twice because the cheap piece of junk was so easy to force open. After the second time the culprit was caught and the school police advised me to use a keyed padlock instead.
I just used a Master Lock #3 padlock since lockpicking and locksports hadn't really taken off yet at the time so I saw no danger of my locker being broken into by a experienced picker but now a days I would get something better like and American or Brinks that uses security pins.

public schools have a nasty tendency to require that all locks have the key override that matches their peculiar key number so they have to special order padlocks from Master. That aside they are probably still not costing the school $20 and they are issuing a "surrogate punishment" for losing the lock in the first place.

My school only required the security staff to have the combination to your lock on file and a copy of the key if you are using a keyed padlock.

when I went to school I don't think you had to give them sweet f all.... or I was suppossed to and didn't.... I remember one time i forgot the combo to my locker over the march break so I brought a hacksaw to school and went to town on it....kept the hacksaw in my coat for most of my schooling from there on, came in handy once or twice

my high school would pull out the bolt cutters whenever they found someone brought in a lock other than the ones supplied to students. It didn't really matter if they were doing a search, they would just walk down the lockers every day and cut any non-1500D off the lockers. Occasionally they'd also check the backs to make sure the key bypass was there (if not, out comes the bolt cutters again).

Weird thing boogerboy, because the whole reason for the keyhole in the back is so if the combination is lost (or in case of an emergency), any issued locks could be opened using only a set of a few master keys. At least that's what I thought. I don't see why your staff couldn't just open it using the keyhole. But doesn't matter anymore I guess, haha.
On the topic of shimming, there is a few posts here on it (and many other places) and it doesn't take much to learn. Once you can shim the lock, you can use the opened lock to look through the hole and figure out the combination (that is if you know how the lock works, which is a quick read). This is usefull to know for future, when you or your friends forget the combinations. In my school we use our own locks that we buy, so if someone forgets their combination, to quote nekret, 'out come the bolt cutters'. After spring break once, this little trick saved me and a friend our locks, and some time.
Could have saved you 20 bucks and some time, lol. (What a ripoff on your school's part btw.)

Even with the key override -- there should be a code on the back that will yield the combination. If that fails (you do not have access to codes), there is a cracking method for these but you have to dial 50 combinations or so to get it open.
