When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Okay i picked one of my master lock padlocks i think it was No. 1. I picked it with a plastic knife you know the ones they give you at a fast food. Okay one way is to take of the rough edges with a file or cut them out. Now go and print a template of a hook pick and glue it to the knife. And just cut and you have a hook pick. Buy it only lasts like 3 uses for me. *And for a tension wrench just bend a hair pin put it into the lock, straight into the key hole and bend it and you have a tension wrench!

Its always better to get/make proper tools, but people do enjoy picking with whats at hand.

I made some lock picks i keep in my wallet incase of an emergency, and i made them out of a bobby pin (hair pin) and a paper clip. It actually works very well.
I bent the bobby pin open, and bent the streight end up to make a square hook, I then grabed my diamon file and made a hook shape with smooth edges. I then made a tension wrench out of a bent paper clip. It all works well and looks innocent kept in my wallet.
I know you are but what am I?

I have one question Marco 321. How did you make the tension wrench with a paperclip?

I was actually very easy, I saw this guy do it on youtube, ill give you the link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0HFBlrqWjg.
The only impovement i made to it was to make it grip better, i made the bit you put into the lock a slightly different shape by bending it back on itself. So instead of gripping with a right angle shape, it grips with more of an oval-ectangle shape. But I would sugest trying variouse changes to it to suit your personal style.

Hi guys, to begin I gotta say after looking through your website, you have a great forum going
my first question on here is gona be..!!
For a newbie do you think that it's better to buy a set from somewhere, or are homemade ones better? I'm pretty good with the dremel tool and all that stuff so it's mostly the matter of which one is better.
I read through a bunch of topics but didn't really find anything convincing about this
thanks in advance.

Hey
Welcome to the forum
I made some lockpicks first from hacksaw blades then, after i was fully satisfied with them i ended up buying a small set and a jackknife. For me personally i found it best to make them first becasue that taught me first hand how lock picks work and what each one is best used for and they where also suited for me personally. After making a few i then knew exactly which ones to buy. It is also a cheap and easy way to experiment with all the different types of lockpicks and if you have skill with a dremel tool it wont take you very long to make some and it will only cost a couple of bucks for the blades

I started by making them homemade from hacksaw blades and the tension wrench form wiper blade inserts. I believe that if you make them correctly and use them but you still want to buy a commercial set then go ahead. I always think that if you use homemade first then when you buy a commercial one it will give you the magic touch making you pick locks faster. But thats just me!

Welcome joseph01
Im glad it worked for you
Im no expert on making lockpicks or locking. But all i can advise is search the forums, look at commercial tension wrenchs, look at some that other people have made and experimment with what you have at home and experiment with variouse designs and your own personal preferance.
Good Luck
Marco
