Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Weiser SmartKey is 98% unpickable, that's what our kwikset rep told us today, as opposed to regular weiser locks which are 70% unpickable.
Seriously, I think he was just making this up on the spot but they should just train these guys to say they don't know the answer if that's the case.
He then admitted he never took one apart and doesn't know how they work, although he watched a video on them.
Oh, and for technical discussion purposes does anybody know if we are considering these locks to be high security (due to sidebar) or low security (no key control)?

shrubsy, I don't think anything that asserts that wieser locks are 70 percent unpickable really means its advanced, wieser is just what kwikset aspires to be some day.

There are some flaws with the lock that make me call it low security even though it is fairly tough to pick and has a sidebar. Key control is just one other hit to make is less secure.
I vote low security. Anyone who stares at one for a bit and thinks outside of lockpicking will see why.

How much they cost? I'd like to get my hands on some foreign locks, as the Abloys are not something you start on and move to a 5 euro/dollar or cheaper chinese padlocks

Jaako,
I think they are right around $45 but I am not sure if that is CAN or US $. I got mine on a trade.

I wonder where they got those figures from....

We should consider whether picking information on the SmartKey translates easily to the mechanism in some high-security lock already out there.
