Unbranded brass padlock

Postby Afisch » 25 May 2007 8:37

I know this will be hard to answer but any advice is welcome. I have an unbranded small brass padlock which is causing alot of problems for me, i have opened it once in about 20 attempts which i would understand if it was reasonably high security but its a cheap looking knockoff lock. When i tension it no pins seem to bind at low/mid tension and any more tension and the back pin false sets high due to too much pressure needed to unbind it. Leaving the rest still unbinded. My only ideas about this so far are: Inverse spools (ive never delt with these before) or just large tolerances large back pin and my inabilty to use tension correctly. (i dont have the key) Any advice as to where to go from here would be greatly apreciated. Will post pictures. Thanks in advance.

Yah I had one of those, it was my first lock. I cut it open and I did not see any security pins. (If I have the same lock) I did not see a name on mine.

Just use light tention. Its really cheep, I would find a better lock to pick.

i had a very similar lock to that(if not the same on). very poorly made, i ended up being able to pick it pretty consitantly. however it was when i first started and i hadnt really had a technique down yet, and i ended up actually ripping pins out(needless to say i dont do that anymore:D

a lot of times cheap locks are harder because the tolerances are SO bad that everything is exaggerated, the binding pin binds more and such. use super light tension and proper technique. and remember if you think you are using enough tension you are probably using too much,

Looks almost like a generic master 150.

The keyways identical except I think the 150 has a square ward to the right where this one is flat.

Interesting, I would say 4 spools on double spool in the first chamber if it's like the 150, but then again if it generic then I have no idea

Thanks for the responces guys, i have "better" locks to pick, but currently its the only lock i have i can't pick consistantly so its the current chalenge. It could well be the spools though to me it doesn't feel like normal spools. Having to use the smaller, non favoured tension wrench isn't helping either. Thanks again.
