Hey guys, have you all seen these yet? I stumbled across them and was a little impressed with the idea.

Wonder how well the system actually works?

I am aware of at least one bypass/defeat tool for this system. It is expensive, time consuming and just plain annoying.
Bypassing this system will create an audit flag for unauthorized entry, but presumably you are supposed to be working on the lock in the first place.

Someone also told me you can effectively short the entire system out, although I haven't seen this demonstrated, and find it difficult to believe the maker didn't consider that possibility.

As a system, it is very secure and offers the added benefit of timed access control, and auditing. Like any other locking system, it's overall strength is dependent on the surrounding construction and hardware.

Cheers,
Romstar

I like this system...We are currently testing it out in several harsh envoironment locations because the power source is in the key not the lock. We were looking for something with audit and timed access control features for our heating plant employees in areas where card readers just didn't last. The cylinders seem to be resistant to strong EM fields, cold, wet, and high temperatures.

Romstar I was also concerned about the possibility of shorting out the system and, as I understand from the Videx rep, you can burn out a cylinder and make it unusable but this will not grant access. I'll PM you with the bypass I am aware of and see if we're thinking of the same thing.

All together I am very happy with this system. Its great if you want electronic access control for locations where it just not possible to run power and/or communication lines for a card reader. I also think it would be excellent for exterior doors as here in Minnesota we have to install heaters in most card readers to guarantee that the cold doesn't render them useless.

That is a pretty slick setup.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
