Right, I've finished my exams (and already started work) so lets get cracking.
I propose we write the thing in Java as we can (with maximum code reuse)
Write a standalone app in Java that will run on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
Write a web-based app in Java Servlets.
Write a mobile/PDA app in Java 2 Micro Edition.
I also propose we licence our code under the GNU GPL, which I think meets Schulyer's moral requirements, still leaves the opportunity for selling hosted versions, or specialist support, best fits the open source philosophy, and allows us to copy in vast chunks of existing GPL code, icons, libraries etc.
Some projects insist that all copyrights are assigned to a foundation, I think this is too restrictive and bureuacratic and everyone should keep their own copyrights over their own pieces of work. This also means that to ever change the licence, each developer must agree, or have all of their contributions re-written.
Any problems or questions?
