uh huh, if u read that as a sentence and not just the word it states that most NEW pickers just "poke and prod". it also suggests that this is BAD and NOT the way to do things. that guide is designed to teach you how to feel the pins and take the luck factor out of it. also reducing ur times on each lock.
All the best

I believe JackNco has very politely pointed out what you've misinterpreted.

bmn wrote:...Many new lockpickers tend to use what I’ve often referred to as the “poke and prod†method, in that they spend a lot of time poking around in the lock with their pick tools, and along the way they manage to set the pins and eventually, through mostly luck, the lock opens. As exciting as this is for the beginner, if their skills do not develop past this poke and prod method, they will have increasing difficulty as they move on to harder locks.

Seems to me that paragraph you quoted says that the novice at first will just open locks by winging it and luck... So are you trying to say that all people are novice and have no skill? or do you have an inablity to read lineary? I reccomend that when reading, try reading the sentence as a whole and not just random words from it, it tends to make more sense that way. Although I do kinda like the idea of this selective word reading to make new sentences... let's try it with one of your posts. bmn wrote:So my uncle and his wife have gone and well i have like a day to lock this <censored> box! It's a brinks it's black and the key hole has pins on top and bottom, how do i lock it!! It took me about 37 minutes to lock it and he has a gun in money in it, and I dont want him to come back with it open!!!
Any technique to lock it??? I didn't use a tension wrench just pushed the pins and twisted it well they were in their. Used two home made hook picks, I'm scared, been tryin to close it for like 1 1/2 hours and i can't get it
The worst thing is that this was the first thing I ever picked!!!
Although i'm in this panic state I want to ask is this good for my first lock???
Respond back fast PLEASE!!!

Hey everyone I'm new and I guess my favorite lock that I can pick is the master lock #40, I just started picking today and so far I've got open a master lock 1,3,40, my front door (Kwikset), my uncles door (???), and shimmed a pad lock (Master).
Is that good???
I just read the rules, and I won't pick any locks i rely on anymore.
Who ever answers my question THANKS

Yes that is pretty good for it being your first time ever. And it is even better that you wont pick locks that are in use anymore.

My favorite lock to pick is the Kwikset that I constantly repin. The reason that this is my favorite lock is because any time I get frustrated with another lock I can boost my confidence by picking this one in a matter of seconds.

The first lock I bought ERA 5 pin, an easy lock to pick but good to go back to when your confidence is low and find hard to pick a new lock.

My favourite lock is a schalge maxiumum security lock. I just got this lock less than a week ago and i love it because it was my first lock with security pins. It has 4 out of 5 spool pins and yet i can pick it fast and consistantly. I've been making really good progess

my favorite lock is a cheap euro-cilinder (about 15 dollars)
I made a cutaway from it and i made from the normal pins spool pins.
I learnt a lot from this lock
14-piece southord....
euro-cilinder
Yale, Abus, Ripa(waver) padlock
