Jammed lock problem

Depending on the depths of the first few cuts.....you might want to take a C4B or LW5, cut it down on a code machine (laser cut) to about a 5 depth.

After snapping the head on the stuck key...use the new key as your punch and tap it into the profile....should push through the rear of the plug.

Alternatively, you could try and do the same thing with a C4BR (I forget the Silca equivalent) and try from the rear of the barrel.

First few cuts look like 3's, but the picture is unclear.

The only thing keeping the key in is the first pin which is situated before the first chamber, but still inside the housing, so knocking the key out can't work.

Filing off the peaks between the cuts and knocking the key in is about the only practical way to put this lock back to normal. Only the peak immediately in front of the jamming pin will be mashed off. If you pull out on the key and file off as much of this peak as you can, you wiill minimize the amount that must be mashed off. With the peak between the 1-2 and 2-3 key cuts filed flat, the key will slide past these. As soon as the key is fully inserted the lock will function normally again.

If the key cut for the bottom pin with the upper pin in a chamber is cut lower than the correct operating depth, and bumping the lock still hasn't turned the plug, then you might try a very thin shim inserted through the keyway to the side of the key. The shim will be angled so as to raise the pin to the correct turning height while you gently push it in.

Filing and smashing the key is still the best solution. The problem will be over in only a few moments.

Do you have a hand drill and a punch?

If so, drill out the retainers, and get some new ones from the locksmiths you are currently working at.

I just remembered something else I wanted to remind you of. When you smash the key into the plug, make sure something solid is supporting the plug. You are NOT trying to drive the plug into the lock case but just to drive the key into the plug.
