Peterson Serrated Pry Bar

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Peterson Serrated Pry Bar

If anyone has used this -- what types of keyways have you had success with? It looks to be a wonderful tension tool but it does seem a bit thick. I realize that the thickness is the idea, but even so, ideally I'd want to know which keyways it might work with specifically before considering buying it...

its a good tool to add to the kit, the only obstacle is applying the right tension because it is thick and it is hard to tell how much tension to apply when there is no feedback

It won't fit in all keyways or every opening of some keyways but for most locks made and sold in the US it will fit into. You can get a lot of feed back through this tool IF you take care to use very light tension. Crank it up and you might as well be using a screwdriver.

But I like it and use it for almost everything I pick that it'll fit in.

I agree with dmux, it is a nice tool to have in your kit, but only if you work with locks with spring loaded actuators that require heavy torque to unlock.

That's why it is made from thicker/heavier government graded steel.

Yeah I have no idea why there are three version of this thread.

viewtopic.php?t=21244

that one is the "correct" thread with a good 2-page discussion. This thread should get deleted IMO.

What I meant is to make sure you use light tension with this tool because it is very easy to apply excess torque on the lock with this wrench. If you tend to apply too much pressure and thats what you intend to do with the Pry Bar you might as well be using a screwdriver cos you'll end up with the same results and not even bother to buy the Pry Bar.
