Tweezer-like thing..

I have the southord 20 piece set, and one of the items in it is a little thing that looks like tweezers, but it spreads open when you take the little retainer ring off. What is it for and how is it used?

that is easy it is a broken key extractor leave the ring on it slides up like you were going to take it off to open the jaws then when you grip the key the ring will slide back down createing tight jaw,i havent found it useful i perfer useing a dental pick and some time.hope this helps

actually that is a tension tool sometimes called a "wishbone tension wrench" and is used for double sided wafer locks that you need access to both the top and bottom of the keyway. They are generally prone to slipping out and I tend to avoid using it when I can.

kissnatcher1, You probably havn't found it useful because it isn't a broken key extractor. I don't know who told you that or why you would even think that..there is no way the method you described would work.

I will say though that as a noob you should be reading more than replieing as you dont know anything yet and adviseing others in your current knowledge state always ends up in tears, trust me ive seen it all before,

To the OP,

It is a double pronged tension wrench also known as othe rnames more so a wishbone wrench,

They are used on locks that need an even tension on the plug or in the most part wafer locks specifically double sided wafer locks,
Thos locks are difficult to pick if trying to use a normal wrench for various reasons,

The wrench you have in the SO set is the better of all the ones in these sorts of kits so eep hold of it,

Useing it as a extractor not only wouldnt work at all but would also damage your wrench so dont do that,
