Cheap lockpicks

i am wondering were i can get cheap lockpicks, and what kind. my friend recommended the lockpickshop.com

i dont need much, i want to start off cheap and work my way up to more expensive tools as i progress.

i would probably get a few picks instead of a kit. why are the slim line picks more expensive then the regular ones? is it worth it? i would rather have the slim line ones unless it is better to use for locks.

what picks and rakes would you suggest?

This question is asked weekly. I would encourage you to search before having to repeat this information.

And don't go with slimlines unless you plan on picking very narrow euro cylinders. You're just starting out, so you want cheap and rugged picks to break.

one mistake I made when starting out was gathering flocks of old warn-down masterlock padlocks with minuscule pins that I never learned how to feel. Do your self a favor and get a big deadbolt, if you can that is.

If you are just buying individual picks and not a set, then i would recommend getting:
-C rake
-short hook
-diamond

If you buy large sets you will find that you won't use most of the picks in there - those three are the most common ones that i use. You may want to get a half ball pick aswell because i find it very useful on wafer locks. Buy from lockpickshop.com and enter lp101 in the coupon box when ordering and you will get %10 off.

I've got the 62 piece Southord set and the Falle-Safe set, and some others.
90% of the time I use the Southord short hook, that's it !!!!

I have a few rakes too but they just sit in my case and never gets called in to play anymore. To me they're cumbersome to use with a lot of high security locks.

No rakes are awesome they can open a lock very quickly.

Rakes have their place like every other pick. The teaching is that you should learn to single pin pick before you worry about raking locks. Raking can be effective on some locks, but useless on others. For hobbiests single pin picking is much more satisfying that raking to open a lock.
