South Ord Sets.

Has anyone got the 74 piece lock pick set by Southern Ordinate. It is very expensive but i am tempted to buyit. Do you find yourself using all of the picks, or is it better buying a smaller set?

That question has been asked many times before. Using all the tools in a large kit is possible but not entirely probable. These big kits tend to have multiples of the same pick and some with very slight variations.

In the long run you may find yourself just using a select few and the others will just gather dust or look pretty in the case. You can prolly do just about everything with 15 piece that you can with a larger set.

I bought a 9 peice slimline and fail to use every pick in the set. If you feel the need to buy many picks, try expanding into perterson, falle etc. as many others have on this site, i belive you may have more use for the picks. I looked at the large SO sets, they seem to largely consist of strange looking rakes and slight variations. What tools do you find you reach for most at the moment and what are you currently using?

Yes, at the moment i am also using a 9 piece set, i find that there are only one or two i use, but if i had a much bigger selection? Who knows?

If you want the most picks for the least money I would suggest www.lockpicktools.com I redered the biggest set they offer and love it. It comes with a nice selection of slimline and regular picks, also with a set of warded padlock picks. It also has all of their handle types so you can see what works best for you.

The tools are very good, i have only the slimline but im sure the standard ones are as good or better. These are standard size right? or is it a mixture?

On the bigger sets you get a mixture of slimline and standard.
