medeco exam

Postby pelham123 » 14 Jun 2007 5:08

I'm taking a medeco servising certification exam as part of my school licensing, this saturday. Any qualified technicians know of any trick questions ? I've been studying and know my stuff pretty well, but there's a lot of numbers and sometimes they try and throw you.

it's very easy, they don't want you to fail,
but it's good to know
the angle of the tip of a medeco pin
the angle of the cuts on a medeco key
the diameter of the pins
the amount of hardened inserts in a medeco lock

most of the questions are gonna be straightforward, you'll do fine.

Seems like you know your stuff. I always thought there was a hardened bar going through the whole sidebar, not just a ball bearing.

there may be a few questions on cam locks as well
which cuts are possible on cam lock keys, do cam locks have shear lines, which cuts do not work, etc. So if you aren't too familiar with the mechanism of the cam lock (it's quite different from their normal locks) you should read up on it.

oh..and there are a few questions regarding MACS as well, which are fairly complicated with medeco since they vary depending on the and the fore/aft spacing.

thanks boys , I took thatb exam today and passed easy. I drew a blank on a simple masterkeying question but I think it was the wording that threw me. Oh well it's on to multilock. I just want to say one thing though. I realize this is a lockpicking site but none of my instructors have said that they have seen a medeco biaxial picked in a real world situation. With the way they are constructed using sidebars , false slots, mushroom pins and a slider in the med 3 I just don't see how it is possible.

Maybe they just never bothered to try themselves. But if they are instructors and full time locksmiths I can understand if they didn't have the kind of time we hobbyists may have to invest in this area of locksmithing alone.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
