Master vs. Schlage

Postby markracer » 31 May 2004 12:15

Does anybody prefer Schlage over Master locks for residential purposes? Particularly deadbolts in general. I personally find Master locks easier to pick compared to Schlage for some reason. Is it because Schlage uses different type of pins? As you can tell I'm a hobbyist 8)

Just curious...any feedback would be most helpful!

I dont know much about lockpicking yet, but I can tell you that one ot the things that makes schlages a bit tougher is the way their wards are designed, it makes it dificult to get the tools in the keyway.

Okay, well Schlage and Master are in two completely different categories as far as security goes. The highest master lock that I have encoutered as far as security goes is the 140, and that thing isn't much. Master locks are cheap and durable, such as the no 3 locks since they supposubly can withstand bullets. Schlages are made with much more precision, and on the higher ends will take much more time to pick but they cost more and since there is more precision, therefor less durable to things like sand, dirt or all that other element stuff.

Get a 220, that'll keep you busy for a while...5 pins, of which 4 are spools.

Master also makes SFIC, I have yet to encounter one, but I imagine that, depending on bitting, they could have a fair amount of pick resistance.
