Repost - Need help, picked my deadbolt, now key won't work

Postby calypso » 1 Jun 2004 20:38

Hi all,

This is a repost... think I might have posted it in the wrong area the first time.

I'm in sort of a desperate situation. I picked the deadbolt to my front door, except, I forgot that locks that take a half-turn often have a safety pin that drops into place if you don't secure it. The end result is, my key no longer works. So, I need to know if there is any way to fix the situation. I can pick the lock again, and the key seems to go in until the very last pin, then "sticks". I can force it in, but it won't turn. Any help would be appreciated.

I have picked a few kwickset deadbolts And accidentally turned the plug 180 degrees and the pins stuck the key wouldn't fit and had trouble picking to turn the plug back. Easy to fix just take the screws out remove the side that you turn to lock it from the inside, turn the bar until the plug goes back to the normal position. IM sorry this may not be the same problem your having I am totally guessing but i would take it apart try the key if the key still didn't work i would pick it back to the position where the pin dropped and turn the lock upside-down or use a pick to try to get the "security pin" back to the proper place .sorry if this doesnt help goodluck :0)

Use silicon spray, wd40 destroys locks.
