Tension Tool?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Tension Tool?

Postby Jakk55 » 21 Jun 2007 21:59

I just got done making my first pick(i believe it would classify as a small diamond) using this website(very informative, i almost spent $30 on a pick set). But here is my problem: I do not have blowtorch, so i can not make a tension tool as described in many of the guides. Are there any house hold objects i can use instead, OR is there a way to make one without a blowtorch?

Thank you in advance.

You can use Street sweeper bristles or Wind shield wiper blade incerts. Look for the LSI guide to lock picking...

For bending you don't need a torch, you can just bend it. Stick it in a small pipe and bend it into an L shape.

But do look for the LSI guide to lock picking found on here. It will tell you how, to make tention wrenches, Lock picks and a bunch more stuff about lockpicking...

Jakk55, if you were specifically reffering to my guide on tension wrenches, you would need a torch of some sort or even possibly using the open flame of a gas stove, it will work if you get it red hot to bend it.

However, if you just want to make a standard tension tool, then like Tygart said you do not have to use heat, you can just bend them cold. Watch out for street sweeper bristles though, if there bent to sharp they can crack, fracture or even break. Windshield wiper inserts are more forgiving.

Yea, Tygart and Kaotik pretty much said it all. Just look around by curbs for street sweeper bristles (you might have to sand them if they're rusted). You can bend those fine without heat (although you might have to settle a bit short of 90 degrees, depending oh how sharp you're bending them). Easiest tension wrench you'll ever make.

Look at this link viewtopic.php?p=182265#182265

It annoys me that one statement youve read somewhere gives such a false impression,

I think if you follow my link you will soon see heating of a wrench is never needed and to be honest once youve heated one it becomes useless anyway unless you re-treat it,

A good bit of advice i can give you here is to search before posting as any question your going to ask has already been answered hundreds of times before hence why i made a video to prove a point,
