Of course, I am a newbie. I have yet to buy a set of picks but was looking at www.lockpicktools.com . If I was to buy a set from there then will they work with padlocks and locks etc in the UK?

it's not the picks it's the picker that dictates what will work...

Really? I thought that on the sponsored site of LP101 I saw a special set of 'Europe Picks'. So are you telling me its cool for me to buy some from lockpicktools?
(Can anybody post a picture of a lock pick compared to a finger or something, I wondered how big they actually are, and how bug the 'head' is so i can see if it would fit in the different padlocks that I have.

For a lot of euro and uk cylinder locks a slimline pick tool may be needed.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

get the euro/jap slimline picks. they work on both. but standard picks are pretty tight in euro locks. u can still use them on most locks but its more difficult.

What JackNCO said, if its difficult, and its the tools fault, get the proper tool. Using a tool that is difficult, is holding you back from getting it right.

slimline picks are fragile, and for a newbie, they are not recommended.

Cool, thanks guys! So would it be best to buy them from the sponser? Also, how hard is it to bend a pick? I'd of thought that if anything, the tension wrench would bend.

you sould never bend a tension wrench, u don't put much tension on it, but "near lack of tension wrench" doesn't sound as snappy. you WILL bend a pick as u learn. i still lose my cool and calm and bend one a bit every now and again. best bet is to buy a couple of spare short hooks.

I think i'll probably buy the basic kit first and then see later. Are the picks weak then? I still can't see how a bit of pushing and raking would bend it
