Stupid Thought or Not?

Alright, I got to thinking about it and now i just need to ask.

I'm considered left handed because i write left handed, however, everything else i do in life, including using scissors, i do right handed. When i pick locks, i generally hold the pick in my right hand and the tension wrench in my left hand. This feels comfortable for me, normally. Now, I remember when i first started tinkering with this before joining the website, i would actually practice on my locks at home, door locks, deadbolts (i know, never pick locks you rely on!) but due to the orientation, I had to hold the picks in my left hand and the tension wrench in my right hand. Though it was a bit awkward, i was still able to pick locks successfully, and from what i am remembering now, alot better. My tensioning control seemed alot better as well and i could "feel" the feed back better.

As I have continued to pick locks over here, I have found that I am successful, however something clicked in my head tonight and told me to go back to picking the way i did when i was at home, hold the picks and tension wrenches in the opposite hands. Has this ever happened or occurred to anyone else?

I would suggest the normal way of holding picks is to hold the pick in the hand you would normally hold your knife in when eating with a knife and fork,
The wrench in your other hand obviously,

On the job you have to adapt and although not practices specifically on left hand picking (im right handed) i find i can pick with either but do favour my normal handed way,

I would suggest the way you first did it and are now doing it would be the better way for your situation which also shows on your results,

Congratulations, you're ambidextrous. So am I. Did you also switch hands as a kid (i.e., switch writing hands, at around 7 or so)?

Anyhoo, the answer to your question is yes, it's happened to me. I hold the picks and wrench in whichever hands they're most comfortable in at any given moment. Sometimes just switching hands helps me pop a lock I'd been having trouble with.

If you write left-hand and picking is more comfortable for you holding the pick in your left hand, you are probably naturally left-handed, though most left handed people also tend to be be somewhat ambidextrous.

The reason for this is probably that as we grow up, many things we are taught are taught to us by people who are right-handed and they since we watch them as they are showing us what we need to do, we lefties are the ones to adapt without realizing it.

I'm the only one in my family who is left-handed and do most things with my left hand. However, when it comes to golf, throwing a ball or batting a ball, bowling - I do these with my right hand. Even do so when kicking a ball.

I play tennis left-handed as I was an adult when I started playing and it just came naturally and other in my class were left-handed. It also gives me a nice advantage because my backhand is wicked and the other players are also used to playing with right-handers. We lefties throw them off-track.

Here's an experiment for you: One day some of us were playing around with a football. I went to kick the ball and used my right leg and foot. One of the other guys who knows I am left-handed in most things told me to kick the ball with my left leg instead. The ball went furth using my right leg because that is the way I was taught to do it, but I had far better follw-through with my left leg. Soooooo, after practicing a while with my left leg, the ball went further and straighter.
