I've been using a GMC 14.4 volt drill for a while, but since it only cost $80 AUD, it wasn't exactly the top-of-the-range... It was good for small drilling tasks, but lacked the grunt to do what I really wanted - fit deadlocks with it.
So...

With the financial year coming to a close (it was the last working day... ) I decided to upgrade (and claim it on tax ) to a new drill, something capable of carrying out a generous amount of work on just one battery.

*And Here It Is*




All up, I paid $550 AUD.

Specs-

18Volt,
3 Batteries,
1 Hour Fast Charge (With Automatic Tune-up Charge after initial 1 hour)
1.5mm-13mm steel self-tightening chuck and
Side stabilizing handle.

I call it Walter.

(And yes, that's a heater in the pic. Australia's actually COLD for a change )

very good drill, i have had 2 now, they last around 1 and a half years and that is with contnues use, drilling through concrete, lots of locks installs, and the occasional use of the rotary pick and then day to day stuff, and the drill still works only the batterys are stuffed.

now i have my eye on the 36v deWalt, 3 year warranty on the drill and the battery, but it costs around $1100, so maybe not this week

raccoon.... you know what a dewalt 18v with 2 batteries and a charger looks like?..... thats what it was

and Mutzy, that seems really expensive for that, it might have to do with it being an import to you or something but I can get that nearly half the price here... or does that come with something special?

im staying up all night. i woke up around 1:30pm on sunday, and its now likw 8:30am on monday, and i havent slept since. yay. 19 hours and counting. lol. ive taken 2 showers, and had the equivalent of like 5 meals today. no, yesterday, no last night. whenever it was. sweet.

lol no. for a while there i was half delusional and crap. lol. i was browsing and ended up just saying that. lol. i dunno. i still havent slept.

USWDWF - How much $US do you pay? $550 for us is around $470 for you.

It was actually a good price, since those batteries are worth around $180 themselves.
One of our senior servicemen has two, and also said it was a great price.

we pay so much in australia because products gets over taxed, most the time its cheaper to import it your self, and i dont think australians consume as much as america so shops charge alittle more, there is also no good local compatition thats worth buying for alot of things

my girlfriend buys nintendo DS games from america, so she gets them 6 - 12 months earlier than if she was to get them here and normally cost around $30au less

so what Mutzy got it for is a good price for australia but its still over priced
