Picking times. Lets see what we can get.

OK so heres the deal.

Since I started picking locks I have never know if the times I am getting are any good. Sure you can ask other people what kind of times they are getting but I don't want to start a new thread for every lock I have and no one else wants to either. And even if I did I would be comparing my best times against other peoples best times. which really isn't a realistic guide to how quick people can open locks every time. Im sure i cant be the only one thats thought this in the past?

So heres what we are doing on this thread. Grab a handful of locks. then post up the times along with the make/model/spec of the lock and the tools u used and technique.

And here are the rules!
1 - You can pick a lock only once, do NOT just post up your best times. only the first time counts. (feel free to add other times in brackets if you feel like boasting but thats not what this is about)

2 - You can have the tension wrench in the lock but the pick can NOT be in the lock before the timer starts

3 - I have only posted times to the closest second because I think anything more than this is pointless right now.

4 - Do NOT make fun of other peoples times. this is all just a bit of fun and we are all at different levels (I know im not happy with some of the times on my list. but thats not the point.)

5 - Have fun and be honest.

What would be an interesting concept would be to agree on a type of lock, repinned the same for everybody.

Meh, I know I cant in force the rules. but its all just a bit of fun. there hasn't been much going on around here so i thought ide give people a reason to grab there picks if they haven't been doing so as much recently.

True but binding orders would still be different and u can learn one lock and pick it in seconds in some cases. but ide still be up for that if u fancy it.

Ok sorry i really didnt mean to do that so im sorry if i offended i was only pulling your leg hence the smilely,

I think its a supurb idea especialy if theres a list of locks that have certain pinning, that way theres a chance of everyoner getting at least one of the locks,

I apprechiate not al will be able to repin and not all locks can be repinned but its a base and one we can compete over,

I vote for MACS and common locks then anyone can add their times for their own locks as an addition,

heh, no problem.

Im not fussed how people open them as long as they specify SPP/Rake/jiggle or what ever. as far as im concerned bumping or any other bypass has no place on this thread.

As for some standard locks pinned to macs im up for that. I should have most common locks or be able to lay my hands on them so that could be a cool edition. be a nice standard on top of this. but i was thinking more a massive list of lots of locks and honest times people are getting on them.

Sounds like a great idea, and a place to link "how hard is * compared to other locks" questions. I don't really have the selection of locks to post but i'll give it a go sometime. As its no competition, no best times then i doupt there will be too much cheating, best your gona get is "wow" from it. Look forward to seeing more times =D.

American 5200 Padlock (Pinned 5 Spool) - 30 Seconds - SPP
American 5200 Padlock (Pinned 5 Serrated) - 4 days - SPP
Pacific 40 Padlock (Field) - 10 Seconds - Bogota/Rake - 35 Seconds - SPP
Federal (Field) - 15 Seconds - Bogota/Rake
Masterlock #3 - 45 Seconds - SPP
Masterlock #140 - 1 minute - SPP

Not a big selection of locks to choose from, but it's what i got to work with.

I also used my bogota rake on the #5s, 3s, 240, 140, helping hand, and wei with similar times.

Sorry about the double post, but a question just occured to me. Are we talking about the very first time you pick the lock? The times I listed were my first try with the stopwatch, but after I'd gotten to know the locks well. The very first time I picked each of those locks, some took much longer.

Ok, dunno if this is considered cheating, but I ran into 2 previously cut in the field American 5200 locks today, and i sprayed them with WD-40 (yeah i know probably a bad idea, idea was given to me from a lockie here locally, said it would fill in the minute gaps in the serrated pins allowing them to slide past the false set points easier) and I popped each of them in under a minute.

American 5200 5 pin serrated - SPP - 1 minute
American 5200 5 pin/3 spool - SPP - 1 minute

I'm going to take a picture of the spool pins and post it to show the difference between the two different spool pins and pin sizes i've now come across in these locks.

Can i make a suggestion before this goes further?
I suggest we have a set list, by that i dont mean a fixed one but i mean a template,

Somthing like this,

What this can be used for is to simply copy and paste or even quote,

Eventually if were all just adding to the list we will get a leader board, if you beat someones time you simply put your name instead of the one before and post the new list,

If somthing like that isnt done this is just gogin to turn into the same as the other threads on the subject in that people just post their times and no-one is interested, unless you read the full thread you dont know who has the fastest time nor what locks have been done in this way,

Its only an idea but i think a list of manufactures that people can add locks to with their times that is then copied to every post would be the best way forward,

I would also like to add further suggestion by way that i suggest anyone not copying the list and adding to it and instead just posting their own results gets disallowed, this will then encourage the list to be carried on and pasted in every post,

If its all set up like that ill try and get some times up when i get a spare 5 mins, otherwise its just gogin to be a mess of posts that cant be made sence of and its pointless me wasting my time contributing to that as it means nothing,
