Abus extra

Postby donjon » 7 Jul 2007 16:23

Hi,
Can anyone give me any details about an Abus Extra eurocylinder?
Can anybody tell me how the top pins function?
Diagrams would be great.
Thanks in advance

What exactly is it you want to know? I think the Extra is pretty much the same as the Abus EC (Extra Class). From memory it has 5 pins up, 5 mini pins down and a dimple key.

Not sure if it's kosher to discuss picking of dimple key locks on the open forum. But you should just have a go and see what you come up with. Some of locks of this type are not too hard to pick.

Thanks again greyman,
Sorry if this post is not appropriate. Could you maybe tell me the function of the mini pins?
Many thanks

This is a bit hazy, but the mini pins are just that - small pin tumbler pairs on the bottom of the keyway. Dimple keys locks can have many rows of pin tumblers, the EC has two rows. They have to be mini-sized because there isn't much space below the keyway to house them.

OK im basing this on what I know about the EC850. there is a tool paper that details them here...
http://www.toool.nl/cutaway1.pdf on page 3

on these there are 6 active (normal) pins and 4 "passive" pins. passive pins are just pins without springs. this means that you really don't need to worry about them while picking as long as u get ur pick out of the way when you try and turn the cylinder.

If the lock you have is anything like this your in for a bit of a challenge. I cant open mine yet.

All the best

John
