Locks in London. Help Please !!

Postby Carl_Mor » 7 Jul 2007 5:36

Hi. I'm a lockpicker from Spain who is going to London next week on holidays, and I would like to know where can I find locks in that city at a good price, and also which are the most common brands there. (price too ;-))

Thank you very much

I'm not from UK, but I bet that the Cubb lever locks are the most comon item seen on sale there. I think that Shrub might know the best on this subject :)

NOTHING in London is a good price. absolutely nothing. have a look round and go window shopping then check out ebay.co.uk and have stuff shipped over on surface mail. should cost less than £5 (about 8 euros) for even heavy chubbs to Spain.

Unfortunaley where lever locks are concerned they will tend to be expensive and come with a load of hardware a hobby picker doesnt want,

Lever locks to look for would be the easier ones to pick such as the older invincibles and profits which you should still find in some less busy shops, things like the chubb 3u115 is a good lock as are the union 2134's but again older locks that are not the latest BS specs so you may struggle in the middle of london,

I am gogin to go out on a ledge here and assume you are after pin locks,

In that case B&Q (its a big DIY store) will have the Yales etc that you would find commonly and at probably the best price at retail in the middle of london,

As for euro cylinders etc you will have to go to locksmiths for anything that isnt the cheapest and crapest of the lot (diy stores tend to stock the cheap crap as thats what diy'ers want  ) things like Mul-T=Lock will be authorised official dealers as will other simular brands,

Maybe someone with a shop that frequents here could drop you a address and number for you to call in to otherwise as the others have said i think your better off on fleabay,

How long you stopping? would you have a postal address?

Shrub's right. You will pay a fortune for decent lever locks, etc, over the counter, especially in London. You are far better off with ebay and shipping to within EC shouldn't be too much. I remember walking past a locksmith in central London who had a used Ingersoll core in the window. He wanted 60 pounds for it. On ebay you could get something like that for 15 pounds or less. You may wish to try one of the markets, but I wouldn't expect too much.

thats about list price for the lever pack alone for Ingersoll. if it was a door lock complete thats a bit of a bargain new in a locksmiths.

Do your-self a favour and go to a sunday giant boot sale, you will pick up second hand locks for as little as £1 each, spend £30 and you wont be able to carry your bag.

Unless ur after tacky spoilers, shiny wheels for a VX Nova and a good chance of getting mugged, then Essex is the place to go

but yes Car boots sales would be a good place to pick up cheap locks.

All the best
