Yale for practise.

Postby Trip Doctor » 10 Jul 2007 0:15

So I'm thinking of getting a Yale deadbolt (for more practise) as I found one for pretty cheap. Firstly, I don't have any slimlines, so those of you who dealt with a lot of Yales, will I have much trouble getting my picks into the keyway (I do not know the keyway type, but perhaps you could base your say on the most common ones used). And for the other question, it's a 'double cylinder' (I understand this as keyways being on both sides), will I be able to take it apart just like any other lock (shim from back, etc - I'm don't know if the cylinders are connected or something like that)? (Last question may sound pretty stupid to some of you guys, but I've only taken a Kwikset apart, so, not much experience there. :P

I have a old hollow yale kik cylinder and when it was new I bet it would look tricky but seening that you are in the US (since your location says MN) you shouldn't need a slimline. A regular hook or diamond should do the trick.

Arighty, thanks, I just thought that Yale was a European brand, and therefore might need a slimelime.

Yale sells in both Europe (UK) and the US. Maybe in a couple more other countries too but can't be positive on that.

Ah, got ya. And the fact that it's a "double cylinder" doesn't make it any trickier to take apart?

Shouldn't. Just look at it as if you got two cylinders that keyed alike.

Hokay :D . Just thought it might have been like the Ikon SK6 or Abus, with a keyhole on each side of the cylinder, and the spinning thing in the middle.
