I'll have to agree with UWSDWF on this. The MXPS-14 is all you'll ever need for a long time if you take good care of them and use them properly to handle everything they sell at Home Depot.
Those larger sets looks like they offer more pick designs but all they really do is put a lot of identical picks in the set to make it look big with unnecessary rakes and picks you'll almost never use.
The type of pick tools you'll use most are different hook picks and maybe one or two rakes occasionally.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Yep, go with the 14 set. I have it (the cheaper one though), and (like said) it's all you'll need for a while. In fact, more than enough for starting out.

hmmm you ask us for our opinion and then say your going against it but want more input from us.... so what was the point of asking in the first place if you didn't really want our opinion?
none the less
up's: they are cheap and probably better then you could make
down's: it comes with a bunch of redundant picks and they aren't petersons

I'm going to give the best advice you have ever heard: Sand and polish your picks after you buy/make them. This improves the feedback from them and makes your locks live longer
