Awsome but wierd tension wrench?

Postby tehcowlovah2 » 13 May 2007 23:19

I know I have a dinky little 4 pick 1 tension wrench set but its better than nothing. My friend showed me his 14 piece kit which had a flex tension wrench that was really nice and could rest your finger on. I was wondering if these where ment for the method Ive heard of called snapping?

well you can use it with a pickgun if thats what u mean by snapping, but they are more commonly used for a very light tension so you dont overtork more on the line of spool pins/mushroom where u need very tittle pressure to prevent the pins from binding.Hope this helps

By snapping, I wonder if you mean the pick gun method of slapping all the pins at the same time...

Ummmm... short answer: No.

Granted... you can use a twist-flex wrench in conjunction with a snap pick (as mentioned), however this technique is in no way specific to that type of wrench. Pretty well any tension wrench would work with the snapping technique, as the technique is not specific to the wrench, but rather the tool doing the "snapping".

A search for Snap Pick will turn up a mitt full of results that might help you better understand that technique.

In the mean time, the twist-flex wrench has the benefit of being more comfortable to use (as you noticed) and provides a somewhat different feel than a standard L wrench. It's also possibly a bit more forgiving for the heavy handed picker - though that's no excuse not to learn a good picking technique.

Happy picking! :)

EDIT:

Gah! I got suckered!

Here I am typing out what I thought was a good, informative answer to a newbie's question. Only after I post do I notice that the OP joined May 13, posted this on May 14, and hasn't been back to post since. Crap! I hate it when I end up answering a thread resurrection.

Oh well... perhaps this little nugget of wisdom will help someone out at some point.
