i carry my set along with a selection of locks in the car whenever i go out.
the police probably wouldnt say anything if they saw them as i dont give them reason to suspect me of wrongdoing.

picks + intent = trouble

You don't need to raise your hand to goto the bathroom. You don't need to ask if it's OK to carry lockpicks with you. It just is.

With respect Raccoon, in some countries carrying lockpicks is considered to be the same as carrying burglary tools and if the police suspect you of intent, eg you are also loitering, etc, then you could be in trouble. In the same way, here in the UK it is now an offence to have information "that could be useful for terrorist acts" in your possession (eg plans of buildings, etc). Yes - unbelievable but true. A guy just got charged with this "offence" the other day :?

If you are loitering with lockpicks, I encourage your arrest.

Thats why I say, just carry them. If you're an honest john, you have nothing to worry about.

i use to carry my bogotas, until i decide not to use those nice pins that are attached and they decided to "jump" of of my pocket along with what ever else i was taking out

so any of you with rai's bogotas, use the pins not just to hold the picks together, but to secure them to yourself and don't just carry them around in your pocket

it was a hard lesson, but lesson learned

thx rai.

I don't bring my entire set, but its always nice to have an emergency kit...I actually just splurged and got the new credit card pick set ( http://www.lockpickshop.com/CC-LOCK-PICK-SET.html ) , which is pretty inconspicuous and easy to carry around, and suprisingly good quality picks...I only wanted them to look cool really:P I also usually have a kwik pick in my bag, as they can usually do the trick for padlocks.
Its hardly a substitute for an entire pick set, but it does the trick in most emergencies and hardly takes any space at all.

1. Take out a credit card and compare the two. Also why do you need to carry your picks with subterfuge, the first impression that this gives me is that you have them for a criminal purpose.

2. What is the point of having a set of picks that have poor feedback, little dexerity and hard to handle, how would this "look cool"

3. The kwik pick is the worst pick I have had the displeasure to use. Terrible feedback, poor quality (the retaining screw never stays tight) and in general is no more the a gimick.

4. Two parts to this one:

A. Why do you need a tool that 'does most padlocks', in what
circumstances are you in so constantly that you have an ever need
to open padlocks outside of your house and with locks that are not
in use.

B. What is your definition of 'most padlocks' as I can name a dozen
brands that the 'kwik pick' will not even fit in let alone begin to pick.

5. What are these 'situations' you find yourself in that you need hidden picks of low quality, that look cool and open padlocks? This deeply makes me question your ethics. Please answer these questions to refute the obvious conclusion that I am sure most are drawing.

Cheers

When *I* walk down the street, padlocks pop and panties drop.

That whole credit card set screams "James Bond". I'm so sexy.

Well, I don't bring mine away from home ( except I'm going somewhere where I can pick in my free time ). Where I live (Slovakia - the little dot on the map under Poland ), the people here are thinking that lockpicks = thievery and when you tell anyone of your hobby, they just tell "man, you're really weird" or something like that. There are no lockpick shops here also. So this country is not ready for something like this. Also some bad coincidence can happen to you. For example: someone has stolen something two blocks from where you are going from bar at 23:00. Policeman stops you and search you. You are carrying lockpicks. And the problem is here. It is unlikely, but would I tell myself "It was unlikely" if it happend ? Not. Of Course not.

Anyway, I never needed them in real situation so I have no reasom to carry them except incerased feeling of security :D

I always carry my 74 piece south ord set with me. But, I also have a padlock in my pocket to practise when i am on a long bus, car or train journey. Dont be totally blatant with your picks and announce to the world that you have them, but do not go to great lengths to hide them either. If a copper did stop you and found you to be carrying lock picks, be a good citizen (*spelling) and fully co-operate and explain your hobby to them. Most will understand. Also, I work within a maintenance team, and along with my picks, i also carry to utility belt knives and a torch.
