Laminated Ripple or Laminated Ripple Core?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Laminated Ripple or Laminated Ripple Core?

Postby n00bking » 19 Jul 2007 16:04

Hey guys, quick quick question. I am thinking about getting an upgraded set of tools. And I am look at lockpicktools.com because of the low prices and the nice ripple handles. So I was wondering...are the Laminated Ripple Core Handles really worth the extra 50 cents compared to the "plain" Laminated Ripple Handles? They don't look like they are that much more amazing. I mean since the ripple are parallel to each other and it is a flat piece of metal in the middle...I guess the LRCH are in theory wider....they look a little bit wider in the pictures at lockpicktools.com

But does anyone have one pick of each or any experience with these 2 types of handles? I am leaning toward just LRH but if you guys think that the LRCH are really better than I would strongly consider upgrading my upgrade and getting the LRCH. (upgrading my upgrade, that sounded dumb) So anyway....any thoughts?

I too recently got some Peterson blue plastic handled picks. :D

Fantastic addition to the toolbox - now have a set of Southord slimlines & the Petersons.

Would definately reccomend the Peterson's

Kind Regards,

i got the LRH-16 from lockpicktools.com the handels are nice, strong and they feel pretty good. The key extractor came with LRCH (wich i think they messed up on that)It broke because the handel was not correctly welded at the bottom of the handel but it did feel pretty good,I would recomend the LRH.

Personally I think the Rytan plastic handle puts the Peterson plastic handle to shame, but prefer the Peterson RUBBER handle over everything.

I think we've already demonstrated how everyone's opinion on handles etc is unique. If for whatever odd reason you are dead-set on buying a set of tools from LPT, then maybe consider buying just two hooks, one in each style handle, and compare them. Then when you decide which you like better, you can buy a whole set...

Noobking, I have some of each style handle from lockpicktools.com They are all great picks, if you prefer handles on your picks I'd say yes, it is worth the extra money for the laminated ripple handles. They are nice to work with. I personally prefer picks with no handle at all so I like the others, but you will not be disapointed if you pay extra for the handles.

Guys I don't think you understand my question.

Laminated Ripple Handles, or Laminated Ripple Core Handles...go to lockpicktools.com and look at the pick handle profiles and youwill see what I am talking about.

I know it is up to me but I am curious if the LRCH's are really worth the 50 cents more for me the cheapskate.

and what he is saying is that it depends on personal preference that no one here has the ability to tell you what your personal preference is.

OK young rooster, IF you prefer picks that have nice handles on them I'd say that you will most likely enjoy the more expensive handles.

I have the LRCH-30 from lockpicktools and I like Laminated Ripple Core handles. I have big hands and I like the feel of them. My kit came with some normal ripple handles also. I haven't used my standard Southord set since I got the ripple handled picks.
