Postby th3anvil » 15 Jul 2007 9:59

Hey everybody,

I'm th3anvil from Chicago, IL. I've been lock picking for some time now and I really enjoy it. I like to build fancy homebrew picks, but also have a SO pickset.

I'm looking forward to participating in discussions here at LP101.

Best,
th3anvil

HOLA. I've been doing lockpicking for years now and I'm mildly good at it. I can pick some of my locks, and it's also a fun party trick ;) hoping to learn some more advanced techniques in my free time.

Greetings and thank you for allowing me to join your forum. Some of you may already know me from such sites as CSN, IL, KP, LC, LR, ect. Some love me, some hate me, but beneath this rugged exterior is a wealth of knowledge accumulated over eighteen years in the biz. I will be popping in from time to time to contribute.

Best Regards,

Hello...

Postby keyless 1 » 23 Jul 2007 16:55

My name is Inego Montoya...you killed my father...pepare to die.

Well, not really. I do, however, need help opening a safe in my office.

I know, I know...there's the whole thing about never discussing safe cracking on these forums but it really is ok in this case!

This safe has had the outer doors drilled open god knows how many years before I got here and one would assume that if someone went that far they must have had a key for the inner doors. I have no illusions of finding it full of money...my goal is to use it as a fire safe for my hard drives. Sadly, I don't have the key for the inner doors and neither does the current building owner.

The owner has given me permission to do whatever I want to get it open though so that's what I've been working on occasionally for the past year or more. He even jokingly said I could have it if I could get it out without damaging his building. When you see the images you'll know why it was a joke. I would have thought the building was built around it if the building hadn't been built 14 years before the date on the safe.

So here's where I am at the moment -
I learned a little ( very little! ) about lock picking and bought the cheapest set of tools I could find thinking maybe I could manage this myself and it nearly turned into an obsession! I even managed to destroy the lock on my office door while practicing...

After about a year ( Don't laugh! I'm a photographer , not a locksmith! )of messing around 30 minutes or so once in a while and being able to set, or at least I was fooled into thinking I was able set 3 of the 6 pins I realized that these weren't pins at all and were in fact, levers! That lead me to the real spirit breaker...this safe was built in 1877 and probably has something like a Chubb Dectector lock in it and if so I surely must have tripped it.

If that's the case is there anyway at all to get this safe open without the original key and without drilling the inner doors? If I do have to drill where can I learn how to do that?

I have some images of my safe that might help anyone willing to help me at:

Many thanks in advance!
Michael

Welcome everybody,
For all thoes new to the site and lockpicking, LP101 is a great place to start.
Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting. Cause everyone should HYSF as well as there Pick-fu.

If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).
Keep it legal.
Cheers,
UWSDWF
