When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Hey guys, quick quick question. I am thinking about getting an upgraded set of tools. And I am look at lockpicktools.com because of the low prices and the nice ripple handles. So I was wondering...are the Laminated Ripple Core Handles really worth the extra 50 cents compared to the "plain" Laminated Ripple Handles? They don't look like they are that much more amazing. I mean since the ripple are parallel to each other and it is a flat piece of metal in the middle...I guess the LRCH are in theory wider....they look a little bit wider in the pictures at lockpicktools.com
But does anyone have one pick of each or any experience with these 2 types of handles? I am leaning toward just LRH but if you guys think that the LRCH are really better than I would strongly consider upgrading my upgrade and getting the LRCH. (upgrading my upgrade, that sounded dumb) So anyway....any thoughts?

I looked at the LRCH too. Then I picked up my HPC picks and wondered, with the way those ripples are, which would fit in my fingers better?
It's hard to explain, but I figure that because of the alternating bends, the LRH would fit between my thumb and finger better. I just like to be able to really plant my fingers into the pick, and not have it slip in any way.
The LRCH has bulges and vallys, which personally, would annoy shit out of me.

These ripple handles look uncomfortable to use IMO.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

First off, i've never used laminated ripple. But just off using my southord flat handle, it works and stores easy compared to ripples. But like i said i dont have any experience with these so i could be wrong where it would be great to upgrade your current picks. I thought it was just a look factor when i looked at them though

Based on first hand experience, I can say that I definately prefer the LRC handled picks, especially for single pin picking. Im not sure if its just me, but the grip is better and you can feel the pins better IMO. Ive even lightly sanded a short hook LRC short hook, where my fingers sit, to see if the grip can get better, and found it does help even more, especially those times u are sitting there practicing and in the zone for a long time, moist hands and all haha.
