I think I broke my Padlock :)

Alright so i've got this padlock, my first lock etc...etc.. the first few time i picked it, it took like 10 seconds with a paperclip and ghettofied tension wrench(tweezer things).

So i order this HPC Pickset, pretty nice.
I pop 'em out of the box ready to pick this padlock, (Master Lock No.1 :D),
thinking, hey, if i could pick this with a paperclip in like 10 seconds, i should be able to just look at this and it'll open right?

Wrong

I can BARLEY pop this thing open anymore, could it be possible i broke something inside the lock?

Idk what could have happened, only way i could see a lock breaking is something breaking off inside, or a spring messing up?

Or maybe in the time it took to get my picks, i was robbed of my meager skills? Or perhaps the paperclip was giving me an unfair advantage?!

I Can take pics if they would help :)
thanks

Most master locks stand up pretty well to abusive picking so I'd be surprised if you broke it. However moving up from paper clips to real picks will represent a huge change in feel for how you pick the lock so you'll probably be learning all over again. Just keep at it and you'll get your skill level back up to where it was and in time far beyond.

I think because you were useing a paper clip that you got use to useing a paper clip,i dont think you broke the lock,I think you just have to get use to real picks because a pick and a paper clip feel different in your hands.

Assuming that you mean barely!

The word barely signifies that you are still able to open the lock, so why do you think it is broken?

I also think it is you new picks giving you a hard time, as mentioned above, whenever I make a new pick I experience problems with the feel, you just need to keep practicing!

:D

Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

Approach the problem like you would with a woman, get it nice and drunk so it opens right up for ya... no foreplay needed. I gotta stop these posts :P .

But uh, occulum man. I started with a paperclip too, and when I switched to a SO pick the feel was different, and I had to get used to that (although it shouldn't take long). So as mentioned above, just play around with the picks more so you get used to them.

It's possible you're using too much tension with your pick set.

A paper clip won't put up with much force being applied to it, but a tension wrench is able to resist a lot of turning force.

This is the main thing that comes to mind tbh.
