Not sure what kind of lock. This is new to me!

I am a rookie just trying to save some $$$ I lost the keys for a small hot dog cart I have. The locks are small and when locking you turn the key clockwise a lever comes down so that you can't pill open the door. I want to try to pick the lock. Can anyone help? Buying a tool or I think will be cheaper than having a locksmith com eout.

You need to call a locksmith. We are a hobby picking group and cannot give you advice on opening the lock on yout "hot dog cart". It's aginst our ethics to pick locks that are in use. You need a locksmith to make you a new key anyway right?

No. I don't have to have a key I can just use a bungee cord to keep the cabinet closed. I haven't used it in a few years and wanted to take it out to a festival this weekend.

There isn't a bolt to cut? I think the lock is called a latch lock. It is cylinder lock that you turn with the key and the latch comes down on the inside. I have a call into a locksmith. Probably be around $50, not sure how much they will charge to have a key made...

If there was a way you can take the cart to the locksmith you might save yourself a call-out, mileage fee ect.

$50 is nothing compared to what you lot make at these festivals, a new key will likely be a few dollors more but not excessive it sounds like a simple lock but it might not be, you could end up damageing it and then not gogin to the festival afterall,

Get the lockie in and maybe offer him some free tickets to the festival for part payment or free food if he drops by, were a likeable bunch and sometimes a bit of humanity shines through,

Although in this case, he apparently wants to close the lock.
Which is dangerous, you might not be able to open it up again.
But it should be simple and cheap to replace by a new one.
