When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Brass is a really cool metal to work with. It doesn't harden like steel when heated, but gets softer. The only ways to make brass stronger are to work it (hammering, bending, etc), or to change the alloy ratio. The brass that I work with is a high brass, (normally 65% copper & 35% zinc) that has a great tensile strength. By working it a little, you can make it sorta springy.

I started making some brass picks a couple days ago. They should be complete soon. I'll post my results when they are finished :)

If you are not heavy-handed brass and copper make wonderful picks. They have a real smooth feel in a lock.
The premier metal for picks is beryllium copper.

berylium copper

berylium copper is used for tools that are in use around flamables, the navy uses it for crescent wrenches, it makes no sparks, however, if you are grinding anything with berylium, you need to be aware of the toxic properties of this metal.

Well, I finally got myself some more materials to finish up the Flame series set.

Here are the results:

This particular set didn't turn out completely identical being that there was a shift in handle placement, but being all made by hand and not stamped, I suppose that is to be expected.

As usuall Kaotik wow. Your an artist. Should start selling. My picks get a fair bit of abuse at work, i couldnt put something that nice through it but for a hobby picker it would be the buisness!

Nice picks Kaotic - They're certainly unique. :)

I'd love to see them fare against a high-low lock with killer wards... Say an EVVA or the like. :P

I know you were joking, but I have an EVVA and there is no way they would even fit in the keyway, only the tip of the tip if you know what I mean. :)
