moving out but lost a key cant afford locksmith

Hi im a n00b when it comes to locks. I really need some good advise. So the problem is ages ago i lost my set of house keys. I had to pay so much to get the front door drilled by a locksmith that charged me £75 so i couldnt afford the backdoor to be done. now the problem im moving out and the rent company want all keys obviously or they take the money off me to get the lock changed. I was trying to pick it but its so hard no wire i have fits or i get the levers and just keep slipping off. the lock is a 2 lever mortice? me thinks as i bored out the key hole to get more space. i can see 2 levers at the front one is long and the other seems stubby. so i was applying preassure onto the big chunk behind them and pusshing the levers up and down but they just spring back again. i kinda got half way but no further please can sum1 know to tell me how to drill this lover or pick it properly. Thanks peeps btw genius. but i stick to computers lol.

The locksmiths here will tell you to call a locksmith......ring every one and go with the cheapest. You may wish to just get them to open only and you will undertake to fit new lock (cheapest option - but you may need a degree of DIY skills to retrofit a lock of differing type). Or get them to do both jobs.

The hobbyists here will offer advice about picking with wires etc. As the exact model isnt known then a drill point cant really be offered.

A mere cursory glance at the European locks forums would reveal stickys on the subject of lever locks, complete with pictures
A back door lock should be a 3 lever at least, normally a 5 lever, and not a lousy 2 lever ( for internal doors only) as you indicate.

If it's a two lever then blowing on it should open it ! A three lever is fairly easy if you know what your doin, and I'd forget it if it's a five lever unless you have the right kit and really know what your at.

By the sounds of it, you have "opened" up the hole ? you may in the process have made it harder to open by compressing the case and preventing the levers from moving properly.

As for a drill point , you need a locksmith for that

Perhaps I'm missing something, but if your landlord wants your keys back, how exactly would picking the lock help your situation? Or do you just want to remove the lock so that you can replace with one to which you do have the key?

If its an exterior door chances are its 5 lever BS lock. if its a 3 lever you still wont get it open on your first try and your insurance probably wont cover break ins. Sorry dude there is no easy option. the only way you will get the door open and in one piece is with a locksmith.

Feel free to read over the stickies in the euro lock section but I wouldn't bother if I were you. if it was as easy as your hoping we wouldn't bother picking locks as a hobby.

yea the reason is i cant afford a locksmith at all no question. so i was hoping i would pick it and replace with a cheap lock. I have tried looking over the uk sites to no avail. And i would of done a good search but i really dont know what im looking for there is so many terms and phrases in your game. And yep you are right it is a backdoor and has three levers the internals are working smoothly ( probably more so now rust) since i milled it. just it is so hard to pick. im pushing up hard on the metal barrel? or metal block behind the levers. which slows them but i hear no clicking or slotting in place am i doing wrong. PS im sorry to pester ill remember this site lol some clever stuff. unfortunatly im so stressed with the lock i doubt it as a hobbie for me ill stick to I.T

Depending on the cost of the lock, that probably will be your best option is to replace it, or just explain to the landlord you lost the keys, but of course he may keep the deposit to, so kinda iffy either way.

Yea costly whatever happens. J ust so u know how crap i am at lockpicking i still goin and have been dremmeling and making peices to pick stuff since 1pm its now nearly 10pm and im still picking lol

both pictures after i let myself loose with a dremmel. looks messed up. All levers still work fine and smoothish but its an old lock. Fits tight into door frame. I guess its an old type with no sleeve? or barrel i dont know what its called but the section that holds the key making the pins harder to get at. its bassicly a hole with 3 visible pins?

Wow so many replies on a subject so against our rules and ethics,

If you cant afford one then you shouldnt have lost your keys,

The only and i mean the ONLY way for you to get around this problem is to hold your hands up and tell them to keep your deposit,

Opening that lock would take anyone of us who work with them a few seconds but you my friend will be there all day and night again,

There are guides on theis site as youve been told but this is not a problem we as a HOBBY picking site are gogin to help you with,
We dont knwo where you live because you havent filled your profile out so no-one from here could drop by to help you, personally that would be a £40 callout and then the price of the lock as now you need a new lock and a key cut from the lock is now pointless,

Youve made extra cost for yourself already by pissing around with it as now you have to have a new lock where as before all you needed was a key,

Get to the yellow pages and start ringing, youve been living there paying the bills etc so im sure your not that broke and not only can afford a lockie but will have to affod a lockie,

Ok well after alot of you guys warning me off wasting my time ive decided to give up and pay for a locksmith hes charging £65 including 5 lever BS lock which is a tenner cheaper than any other place . expensive i know but its for the best . But ive learnt one little thing from all this goins on. Just so i can have the satisfaction of sucsessfully doing a lock im going to make some tools out of saw blade and buy a cheap padlock just to get one open. Dont think itll take over my main hobby like. But its a good insite just to see how complicated and tallented some of you guys are. Thanks for the help
