Medical Insurance - What coverage do you keep as a locksmith

Postby blade2174 » 15 Aug 2007 5:22

Hi All
There is an important lesson to Learn to attend to all those letters we leave lying on our desks ASAP.
Mainly The one for personal Medical Insurance.
Two weeks ago i had a Accident involving a key Machine and a missing saftey guard which resulted in me cutting through the back of my right hand and cutting through a tendon (after the op to repair it , i was told it would be 5-6 weeks before it was healed so having to divert work away is bad enough , but seeing my insurance renewl on my pile of things do on the desk was sickening , so for any guys out there who have not got this get it done now or like me you will be paying the cost.
So as a Opener , what type policys do you all have and who are they with , any special clause's (not santa's)
Hope your all well
chris
(tried to put a pic up but not sure how .i know you all love a gorey pic)

Sorry to hear your misfortune there blade, hope all is well soon.
As far as my insurance for injury or illness ect, I'm covered under the wife's family medical coverage where she works, though I have a small amount to cover in a situation of one of those Just IN Case situations, her's still covers me as a locksmith if Im hurt ect.

I would suggest checking with Nationwide, Allstate , DairyLand I think thats the name if it, way to many others to list, but to at least give you an idea and see if they can help or not.

 I just hope that you get your finance in order and can get back to your normal work. Sounds a little bad that accident.

I'm just wondering a couple of things: First, how is it possible to operate a machine without cover? Every machine that can take parts of you have cut-off switches located so that when cover is opened the machine stops and cannot be started.

And second, I think that this is why medical insurance is mandatory in here.

I don't have medical insurance at this time. It is too expensive.

Due to the recent surgery on my neck and the current state of my lower back I am not insurable. I need at least one more surgery but it won't happen now. No insurance sompany will touch me.

in response to some questions , the machine had a small guard over the cutting wheel that was broken when i bought it years ago ( its a little curtis machine and is so precise that i keep it on the van for all my day to day cylinder cutting) . switched machine off and hurried to remove key, started turning the clamp and managed to slide the bar across to the Still turning wheel and hey presto (lots of blood)
But i did manage to get customer to pay cash and drive me to the local hospital.
So in short unless you are un-insurable for medical reasons you can not afford NOT to Have cover (it has cost me a contract which i was unable to do , 6 buildings , master suites , upgrades , lots of lolly )
But hey if we can prevent someone else getting in the same situation then it may make it that little bit better
