How good are Majestic picks?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

How good are Majestic picks?

Does anyone know how good Majestic lock picks are?

Used their pick guns for years as a cheaper alternative to the Lock Aid brand. Quality is not brilliant but it worked okay. It's significantly cheaper price was the motivating factor in purchase.

With regular use the needles break more easily and the springs need replacing also. The tensioner tightens up if left unused for any length of time. (IMHO)

My first set was a 13 or 15 piece Majestic set, bought over 20 years ago. I've still got most of them left.

Most of my stuff now is HPC and I think the quality is identical. Except for the logos, you can't even tell them apart.

I didn't even know majestic still made picks.

Yep, they do. Either that or it's left over stock. I've got a full set coming in on Friday.

Its a shame you ask after you ordered,

They are the worst picks ive ever used, they are weak and need a lot of finishing before use,
After you have broken the important ones look to South Ord for cheap beginner picks,

I can not comment on the piuckgun quality but as you didnt ask that i dont need to, maybe their blades are quite good but the hand picks certainly are not,

If you are heavy handed and tend to apply a lot of turning force on the tensioner you will eventually snap a Majestic pick. But if you use light tension and not use the pick like a pry bar it should do ok for a few years.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Quality can change but, like I already mentioned, I've had mine for 20+ years. The ones I'm missing are because I lost them, not because I broke them.

I've owned Majestics for about 20 years -- since they were the only ones readily available through the old 'Spy Show' catalog to those of us who were 'unlicensed'. ;-)

They've seen light use over the years, but have held up just fine. My main complaint is that they are very square, sharp, and rough. In other words, they are stamped and shipped. No really finishing effort. Not very smooth in lockways.

So flash-forward 20 years... I still have my Majestics, but have an order for Petersons (Gov Elite III) and the Foley-Belsaw course in the works. Significant upgrades representing my change in seriousness. You get what you pay for. Or more accurately: you pay for what you get.

Good luck!

I've used a handful of majestic picks and I really like them, they are remarkably similar to HPCs.

lately i've come to prefer spring steel for most applications as it doesn't bend nearly as easily. just have to worry about the breaking factor...

I'm looking for good picks which don't bend!
