Master Lock No. 230

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Master Lock No. 230

Postby Veul » 28 Nov 2006 11:02

So I have this Massive Master Lock 230, the kind that is industrial and used for Soda Machines. I coerced a buddy to let me have one without the key to see if I could pick it. Unfortunately I can't for the life of me pick it. I'm using a Southord 5 pick lockpicking set. Decent but definately not the best.

Has anyone bested this lock? Tips would be appreciative.

Welcome to LP101,

I don't however think this would be appropriate to talk about considering the lock is used for Soda Machines, is of the Advaced nature and you do not own it.

Two reasons:
1. Do not pick locks you rely on.
2. Do not pick locks you do not own.

There are alot of things you can learn here in an ethical manner and we are glad to have you join us. Stick around and enjoy the site.

Attractive solid zinc die-cast body with removable cylinder
Chrome-plated lock body resists corrosion
Hardened boron alloy shackle for superior cut resistance
5-Pin tumbler cylinder for added security
Removable cylinder for replacement or repinning
More than 9,000 key changes for maximum pick resistance

Of course people can pick them, but nobody started off with one. Start small.
(Cue sombody posting about how they did start with one :-))

youve qued something similar anyways, but not quite started off :P

basically, i took a trip to the store today, and i bought a master # 230 and two cylinders ( a yale 6 pin and a an ERA which dident specify, but examination of the key indicates 4 pin.)

Before today, my practise locks that ive managed to open include a pathetic cheap one, which i only had to jostle the pick around in the lock and it opened, and a master # 3.

i had a play around with it for a short while, then reset the tension and got to picking..

im not sure if it was a fluke but i opened it REALLY quickly O_O

also i think my sense of touch is getting more refined, as i felt the pins set a lot better in this lock.

note: i was using a euro set from southord.. i just used a basic double ended tension wrench and a hook.

Your ERA is most likely a 5 pin and not 4 pin
